Early Morning on the Liffey
When I’m not out shooting, I’m generally working from my home studio. Working from home means you get to skip the morning commute which on rainy and cold mornings, which is always a pleasure but as spring and summer comes you miss out on the seeing Dublin wake up. A little while ago, I packed up cameras early to go into the city to get some photos, one of my favourite places to shoot , by the river Liffey.
Early in the morning as the sun comes up is always a great time to shoot, because the light is so nice, but on some days, depending on the clouds and the weather, it can actually vary quite a bit. On this morning, I was extremely lucky with the conditions. A low, light cloud was diffusing the sunshine, and creating this beautiful golden glow to the morning.
What really struck me when shooting these, was the number of people crossing the newer bridges on the docklands side of the Liffey. These bridges are normally pretty quiet during the day, but on this early morning, they were packed with people heading to work. Together with the sunshine, they created a wonderful, almost sepia image. I should point out that these only have very light processing. I haven’t really altered the images, and these are more or less as I saw them.
When the sun finally came up I headed back towards O’Connell Street via Talbot street. Talbot street is such a wonderful place to photograph, as it is full of wonderful texture and details. It has a gritty undertone, and it is probably still representative of the older side of the city, although it has changed quite a bit in the last few years.
